Croatian international striker Eduardo Da Silva has finalised the terms of his transfer to Arsenal from Dinamo Zagreb on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, pending the receipt of a work permit.

Da Silva (24) was born in Brazil but moved to Croatia at the age of 15 and took Croatian nationality in 2002. The striker scored the first goal in European competition at Emirates Stadium when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season’s UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round.

Eduardo has made 12 appearances for the Croatian national team, scoring seven goals, including the first in their 2-0 Euro 2008 Qualifier victory over England in October 2006.

During his time with Dinamo Zagreb, Da Silva scored 73 goals in 104 appearances, won the Croatian League title twice (2006 and 2007) and the Croatian Cup twice (2004 and 2007). He was voted Croatian Player of the Year in 2004 and 2006, and was the Croatian League’s top scorer in both 2006 and 2007.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: “We are delighted to have signed Eduardo Da Silva. He has great qualities and will integrate very well into our style of football. He is a very good finisher and although he is predominantly a striker, he is a very adaptable player.

“I have known about him for a while but his performances against us in last year’s Champions League really showed what a dangerous player he is. Da Silva is a pacy, intelligent player. Also, he is hardworking and has a very good team ethic to his game.

“Eduardo will be a great asset for us and we are all looking forward to him joining up with us.”

Da Silva added: “I am so happy and proud to be joining Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world with many great players and I am looking forward to helping my new club challenge for trophies.”

Eduardo will wear the No 9 shirt and will join up shortly with his new team-mates for pre-season training.

there is some other player that also plays for dinamo zagreb that Arsenal are also intrested in apparantly. His names Ognjen Vukojevic . Ive never heard of him but that prob cos i dont follow dinamo.

this is great for dadu…he deserves it and i wish him the best of luck…its gona be sad for dinamo but its gona be the best for croatia…have one of our guys at a top notch team….hopefully in yrs to come he’ll be a top player in the english league

Talk in Croatia is Modric is the next lad to be heading to Arsenal in December if Dinamo don’t make it far in the CL qualifications or UEFA Cup

modric mozda ide u Bayern

Great news for dudu and Hrvatska.I see they’re still chasing another striker but hopefully he’ll fit in well and get his chance. Can’t wait for the season to start.

Yes Modric is off in January if Dinamo are not in any european competitions but he will definately be out of dinamo by the start of the season after this one. Arsenal is his most likely destination but weder bremen and bayern also among others that are interested

I’d love to see him at Bremen. My fave German team🙂

man this is sweet and it is going to help the croatian national team too.

It does not matter where modric goes as long as it is a big club. Will be a big step for him and the national team. As soon as Kranjcar moves to a massive club we will start to dominate once again:)

after spending hours upon hours on english football blogs over the last 2 days it’s really quite
shocking how little they know of football outside of the premiership. So many people haven’t
heard of eduardo and think he’s a terrible buy for arsenal.Especially rival supporters
who think he’s a waste of money and a second rate brazilian who couldn’t make the brazil
side so he settled for us.Really pisses me off that he’s been written off by many before he’s
kicked a ball even.I hope he really does well there and doesn’t buckle under the pressure.
He’s ready for the big time but maybe they shouldn’t advertise him as Thierry Henry’s
replacement but just as a new striker and not put too much pressure on him.I think he’ll be
great and I hope modric goes too but after dudu has made a name for himself and croatia. It’s
hard to read when people are bad mouthing the croatian league and just makes me wild.

I agree jero! I was spending lots of time on blogs too! It was horrible, Arsenal supporters already turned their backs on eduardo da silva. Its really sad, they should support the player not bring him down.

As you said many arsenal supporters and rival team think he is a waste of time. Thats very ignorant, even though they saw the stats they were not impressed. They say the Croatian league is weak. Well eduardo still scored on arsenal, and scored on england. How dare they say that he sucks, when he beat ENGLAND!!! The English Natinal team who supposibly had the best players from england….and Eduardo managed to score on them.

Anyway, I belive Eduardo will do great in Arsenal. I have so much confidence in him that I believe he will score the most goals in England! I hope he proves all the haters out there wrong!

Once he does good, all those assholes who talked shit about him will say, ” I ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS GOING TO BE THE BEST ARSENAL PLAYER!”

The problem with the english denis is that they live in a bubble where they think everything revolves around their country. They only follow their own teams and because they don’t have any players in italy and spain they just don’t care. But we get to follow our players in every league in europe so we are far more knowledgeable about world football. It’s just a waste of time arguing with them because they just don’t know enough and only know the famous guys from the top 3 or 4 clubs in spain and italy. We shouldn’t worry about them.I remember following portsmouth last year and even when they were in the top 10 at christmas the fans were moaning, and the year before they were lucky to stay up.They are a miserable bunch.I know plenty of english guys and they moan all the time.I can’t wait for eduardo to kick some ass.I must say though that there are plenty of arsenal fans who are excited as well but they’re just scared because he’s not a household name and they wanted a big star to replace thierry.I can understand that.
